What is the Flow of energy in the ecosystem?
Answer
Energy flows in a one-way direction through an ecosystem according to the 10% law.
The flow of energy in an ecosystem is strictly unidirectional, starting from the Sun. It is captured by primary producers (plants) through photosynthesis and transferred sequentially to various levels of consumers (herbivores, carnivores). According to the 10% law, only about 10% of the energy at one trophic level is passed on to the next, while the rest is dissipated as heat.
