Q.6. What is infinite bus in power system?

Answer

An infinite bus is an idealized reference bus in power system analysis whose voltage magnitude and frequency remain constant regardless of the amount of active or reactive power drawn from or injected into it, representing a source of effectively infinite generation capacity.

An infinite bus is a theoretical/idealized concept used in power system analysis representing a bus (or generator) with such large generating capacity relative to the rest of the system under study that its voltage magnitude and frequency remain absolutely constant and undisturbed, no matter how much real or reactive power is drawn from it or injected into it by the connected equipment. It is commonly used as a simplifying reference/boundary condition when analyzing the behavior of a single generator or a small subsystem connected to a much larger grid (whose own dynamics can then be neglected), such as in classical studies of synchronous machine stability, where the 'rest of the system' beyond the machine under study is modeled simply as an infinite bus.
