Q1Cloud Computing

Question

Define Cloud Computing according to NIST.

Answer

According to NIST, Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources.

These resources include networks, servers, storage, applications, and services that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. The NIST definition further identifies five essential characteristics (on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, measured service), three service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), and four deployment models (public, private, hybrid, community) that together formally characterize cloud computing.
