What is sacrificial anode?
Answer
A sacrificial anode is a highly active metal connected to a base metal structure to protect the base metal from corrosion.
Due to its higher oxidation potential, the active metal acts as the anode in the electrochemical cell and gets corroded (sacrificed), while the base metal acts as the cathode and remains protected. Examples include attaching zinc or magnesium blocks to iron ship hulls.
