Q.1. State the relationship between line voltage and phase voltage and line current and phase current of a 3-phase delta connected system.
Answer
In a 3-phase delta connected system, the Line Voltage equals Phase Voltage, whereas the Line Current is √3 times the Phase Current.
In a three-phase Delta () connection, the end of one phase winding is connected to the starting end of the adjacent phase winding, forming a closed loop or mesh. Because the terminals of the line are directly connected across the phase windings, the voltage across any two lines (Line Voltage, ) is exactly equal to the voltage across the corresponding phase winding (Phase Voltage, ). However, the current flowing in each line () is the phasor difference of the currents in the two adjacent phases, which mathematically results in the line current being times the phase current ().
