What are the transformer losses?

Answer

Transformer losses are divided into constant Core (Iron) losses and variable Copper losses.

  • 1. Core (Iron) Losses: These occur in the magnetic core and remain constant regardless of the load. They consist of: - Hysteresis Loss: Due to the continuous reversal of magnetization in the core material. - Eddy Current Loss: Due to circulating currents induced within the core body itself.
  • 2. Copper () Losses: These occur in the primary and secondary winding resistances. They are highly variable and directly proportional to the square of the load current ().
