A fuse is a critical sacrificial safety device containing a low-melting-point wire that melts to break the circuit during overcurrent conditions.
A fuse is an electrical safety device strategically placed in series with a live circuit to provide overcurrent protection. It primarily consists of a short strip or wire made of a specific metal alloy (like tin-lead) characterized by a low melting point and high resistance.
During normal operation, the current passes through safely. However, if a short circuit or massive overload causes the current to exceed the fuse's safe rated value, the massive heating effect rapidly melts the wire. This severs the connection and opens the circuit, protecting expensive appliances from catastrophic damage.
