What is resonance?

Answer

Resonance in an AC circuit occurs when the inductive and capacitive reactances exactly cancel each other out, making the circuit purely resistive.

Electrical resonance occurs in an RLC circuit at a specific 'resonant frequency' () when the Inductive Reactance () exactly equals the Capacitive Reactance (). Because they are out of phase, they cancel perfectly (). The total impedance becomes minimum and equals the resistance (), resulting in maximum current flow and a unity (1.0) power factor.
