Re-dispatching is the process of adjusting the output of generating units after the initial market-clearing dispatch, in order to relieve transmission congestion or maintain system security, without changing the total generation-demand balance.
Re-dispatching (or re-dispatch) is a congestion management technique used by the system operator in which the initially scheduled (market-cleared) output of one or more generating units is adjusted upward or downward after the market clears, typically by increasing output at generators on one side of a congested transmission constraint and correspondingly decreasing output at generators on the other side, so as to relieve the congestion while keeping total system generation equal to total system demand; the additional cost of re-dispatching (compensating generators for deviating from their originally cleared schedule) is generally recovered through congestion charges or uplift payments.
