Q10Power Generation Sources
Question
Q.10. What is energy planning?
Answer
Energy planning is the systematic process of forecasting future energy demand and formulating strategies for exploration, development, allocation and utilization of various energy resources to meet that demand efficiently, economically and sustainably.
Energy planning involves assessing current energy consumption patterns, projecting future demand growth (based on population, industrial and economic growth), evaluating available energy resources (conventional and renewable), and formulating an integrated strategy for resource allocation, capacity addition, pricing, conservation and demand-side management. It aims to ensure a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy supply while balancing economic development goals with environmental and resource constraints, and is typically carried out at national/regional level by bodies such as the Central Electricity Authority in India.
