The different types of windings commonly used in transformers include: cylindrical windings (single or multi-layer, used for low-voltage, high-current windings due to their simplicity and good short-circuit strength); helical windings (used for low-voltage, very high-current windings, where multiple parallel conductor strands are wound helically to reduce eddy current effects); cross-over (coil) windings (used for high-voltage, low-current windings of smaller transformers, wound in multiple small coils/sections in series); and disc windings (including continuous disc and interleaved disc types, used for high-voltage windings of larger power transformers, offering excellent mechanical strength against short-circuit forces and improved surge voltage distribution).
