Write the expression of the output voltage of a single-phase full-wave fully controlled converter.

Answer

The average output voltage of a single-phase fully controlled bridge converter is Vdc = (2Vm/π)cosα, where Vm is the peak supply voltage and α is the firing angle.

  • At α = 0°: Vdc = 2Vm/π (maximum, same as uncontrolled bridge)
  • At α = 90°: Vdc = 0
  • At α > 90°: Vdc is negative (inverter mode)
