Define delay angle and extinction angle
Answer
The delay angle α is the angle from the natural commutation point at which the SCR is triggered; the extinction angle β is where the SCR current falls to zero in discontinuous conduction mode.
- 0 ≤ α ≤ π for a phase-controlled rectifier.
- β depends on the load power factor angle φ = arctan(ωL/R).
- Conduction angle γ = β - α.
- In continuous conduction mode, β = π + α and the SCR is commutated by the next firing pulse.
