DFIMs are primarily used in variable-speed wind turbines and pumped-storage hydro plants.
Doubly-Fed Induction Machines (DFIM) are widely used in applications requiring variable speed operation at high power levels while connected to a fixed-frequency grid.
Their most prominent application is in Variable-Speed Wind Energy Conversion Systems (Wind Turbines). They are also heavily used in Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric power plants to optimize efficiency during both pumping and generating modes.
