Handoff is the process of transferring an ongoing call or data session from one channel connected to the core network to another.
Handoff (or handover) is the process of transferring an active call or data session from one base station (or cell) to another without disconnecting the session as the user moves. Two main types are Hard Handoff ('break before make') and Soft Handoff ('make before break').
