Explain the concept of frequency reuse in cellular networks.
Answer
Frequency reuse is the process of using the same radio frequencies on radio transmitter sites within a geographic area that are separated by sufficient distance to cause minimal interference.
Frequency reuse is a fundamental concept in cellular networks where the same set of radio frequencies is used in different, non-adjacent cells. This is possible because the transmit power of base stations is kept relatively low, meaning signals drop off before reaching cells using the same frequency. This drastically increases the capacity of the network without requiring additional frequency spectrum.
