What is Zigbee?

Answer

Zigbee is a low-power, low-data-rate wireless mesh networking standard (based on IEEE 802.15.4) engineered strictly for battery-operated IoT home automation devices.

Zigbee operates in the 2.4 GHz band. Unlike Wi-Fi which requires massive power, Zigbee devices can sleep for years on a coin cell battery. It mathematically utilizes a highly resilient Mesh architecture where every smart bulb acts as a router, violently forwarding packets to reach the central coordinator.
