Question

2 marks

Define Grid Computing.

Answer

Grid Computing is a distributed architecture that mathematically federates geographically dispersed, heterogeneous computers to solve massive, single-task computational problems.

Grid Computing is the architectural precursor to the cloud. It aggressively harnesses the idle CPU cycles of thousands of independent, geographically scattered computers, networking them together to form a colossal virtual supercomputer dedicated to executing massive mathematical or scientific algorithms (like SETI@Home).
